Visiting all the continents except South American and
Antarctica has provided a wealth of material for my writing as has participation
in marine surveys and archeological expeditions in Scotland, Ireland, and
Turkey. Living for a while in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio gave me
the inspiration for the “Corpulent Chiropteran” and four Halloween tales in the ebook Teaching Man and Other Tales. I also regularly review speculative
fiction for www.SFREVU.com and mysteries
I've written for many years and had success with nonfiction
books and articles, but wanted to write fiction and began with short stories. I
love writing these short pieces. The market for them had almost disappeared.
Then recently, websites began publishing them while ebook publishers also like
short pieces. My latest, “Ghost of Past
Loves” is awaiting publication.
As for novels, my time travel romance, the Train to Yesterday, sold to a small, but
well respected publisher. Since then, I've produced another time travel, a
science fiction novel, Beyond the Rim of
Light, and four mysteries.
As my experience demonstrates, persistence and a willingness
to experiment are keys to publishing success. Broad experience and a creative
imagination also help. Anthologies are a great place for new writers to start.
